Infertility is a rapidly growing phenomenon worldwide due to several factors like changing life style, increased stress and delayed child seeking behavior by couples. It is estimated that about 1 in 6 couples suffer from infertility globally. Increase in the prevalence of infertility has increased the demand for efficient treatment methods and for professionals who can provide quality embryology care.
Clinical or Reproductive Embryologists are Medical Scientists who play a critical role in the treatment of infertile couples. They provide complex, regulated Laboratory techniques including identifying the cause of infertility at a cellular level by analyzing the gametes, processing the gametes, producing and culturing embryos from the gametes.
The PG Diploma program in Clinical Embryology launched by Madras University in association with Crea Conceptions Private limited is offered through the University-Industry Community Interaction Center (UICIC). This program provides candidates who are interested in the field of ART with the knowledge and skills required to practise Clinical Embryology. The course is ideal for candidates who want to either pursue Clinical ART or Research in Reproductive Biology.
A candidate who has passed Master's Degree in Life Sciences, Zoology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Applied Microbiology, Biotechnology, Genetics, Molecular Biology, or M.B.B.S, BDS, BVSc. of this University or an examination of other Indian or foreign Universities accepted by the syndicate as equivalent thereto are eligible.
The admission for PG Diploma in Clinical Embryology will be made based on the marks scored in the qualifying examination and or an oral interview.
A candidate shall be eligible for the award of the Diploma only if he/she has undergone the prescribed course of study for a period of not less than one academic year (two semesters), and passed the examination of the two prescribed semesters thereby earning a minimum of 36 credits.
The course is for one year and organized on a semester basis (totally two semesters), consisting of a total of seven theory, two practical courses and a project work/dissertation.
In the First semester candidates will gain complete understanding of mammalian reproduction including - Developmental Biology, Cell & Molecular Biology, Immunology and Research methodologies. One lab course in the first semester will equip candidates in all the laboratory techniques necessary to run a clinical as well as a research laboratory including preparation of buffers and media, chromatography, electrophoresis, spectrophotometry, immuno-biochemistry, detection of nucleic acids & proteins etc.
The Second semester will cover all subjects of human Reproduction and invitro fertilization including basics of Human reproduction and its endocrine control, Etiology diagnosis and treatment of infertility, Assisted reproductive techniques - Andrology & Embryology, infection -diagnosis, transmission & control, Cryopreservation of gametes and tissues, Quality control in ART labs, ethics and regulation in Human IVF and Advanced ART techniques including micromanipulation.
Two end semester examinations will be conducted and evaluated by the faculty of the University Department & Crea Conceptions.
The fee may be payable as demand draft drawn from a nationalized bank in favour of "The Registrar, University of Madras, A/c Dean, Industrial Consultancy" as a single payment.
